Celebrating WAB Student Achievements
From math competitions and history exhibitions to world-class research and robotics, WAB students are turning curiosity into action. Recent achievements include recognition in STEM, top honors in national and regional contests, and student-led projects that connect learning to real-world impact. Together, these stories highlight the many pathways WAB learners are taking to challenge themselves and contribute to their communities.
Mathematical excellence
Grade 8 student Kevin has had a standout year in competitive mathematics, scoring 22 out of 25 on the AMC 8 in January, earning a Certificate of Distinction (top 5%) and placing first at WAB. He went on to receive an Honor Roll of Distinction Certificate in the Math League Semi-Finals in February, and in March, he competed in Math Kangaroo Level E for Grades 9 and 10, earning a National Top Gold award (top 5%). His family expressed appreciation for the opportunity for Kevin to study Grade 9 math at WAB, which has helped support and extend his learning.

History that travels to Washington
As part of National History Day, Grade 7 student Anne and her group created an exhibition titled “1911 North Manchurian Plague: Modern China’s Sanitary Awakening.” Their work earned 1st Place in the Junior Division Group Exhibition category, and the group will travel to Washington this summer to participate in the National Contest. Another WAB student, Grade 11’s Claire, also earned 3rd Place in the Senior Group Exhibition category. These achievements reflect the strength of WAB students as thoughtful researchers and historians, engaging deeply with complex topics and sharing them with wider audiences.

Regeneron Scholar: bridging the AI divide

Grade 12 student Aiden has been named a Top 300 Scholar in the 85th Regeneron Science Talent Search, the United States’ oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. The project focuses on improving speech recognition for less-supported languages, with the goal of narrowing the emerging “AI divide” and making augmented intelligence more accessible to more communities.
Aiden has asked for the accompanying grant to support future STEM contests or courses at WAB, extending this opportunity to other students. He also credits WAB’s personalized learning pathways and experiences such as the Grade 9 Capstone for helping him grow as a researcher and as the founder of the school’s first Tech For Good club, which promotes using technology to benefit the wider community.
Robotics teams reaching new heights

Two WAB teams recently competed in the ACAMIS North Regional VEX V5 Robotics Competition, with outstanding results.
Team members Ethan Guo, Ernest Zhu, Joel Enow, Jerry Cheong, and Aaron Yang earned multiple top honors: Tournament Champion, Excellence Award, and Skills Champion. Their skills score is currently ranked in the top 200 worldwide.
A second WAB team, Zander Reagin, David Kim, An Ton Leonard, Hinata Yamanaka, and Utkarsh Sharma, secured 3rd Place at the event. Both teams have shown impressive collaboration, engineering, and problem-solving throughout the season.
Congratulations, WABbies for your outstanding achievements!
