Small Voices, Big Changes, ES Student Council in Action

In this week’s episode of The WAB Podcast, Elementary School Student Council representatives join us to share how they represent their peers and “make WAB, my WAB.”
Students explain that they joined ES Student Council to make a difference in the community, help other students, and ensure elementary voices are truly heard in school decisions. They describe the satisfaction of seeing their ideas move from “just a thought” to something that actually happens on campus, and how empowering it feels to be listened to and trusted with decision making and tasks.

They go on to highlight projects such as:
-
Spirit Weeks that bring students together through shared dress-up themes, shaping ES-wide belonging
-
Kindness Challenges that recognize everyday acts of care and ends in a pool party celebration
-
Design Challenges inviting students to create outfits for our WAB mascot and our visiting therapy dog, Milky
-
Lunch ideas like Taco Tuesday and special Greek food days that respond to student feedback and celebrate different cuisines
-
Coordinating Lost and Found and donating unclaimed clothing to charity to reduce waste

Students use planning templates to map out these goals and logistics and seek feedback from teachers and leaders to refine ideas such as the ongoing WAB Farm project. Through these projects, students share how they have strengthened their leadership, collaboration, communication, and planning skills. They talk about learning to listen to others, message teachers responsibly, and think about what will benefit the wider ES community. Older students note that these experiences are already helping them prepare for big milestones like the PYP Exhibition.
As Ms. Cath reflects, it has been exciting to see students develop “the magic recipe” for turning ideas into reality: test whether an idea is valid, seek feedback, tweak it to work for a larger group, and keep the impact on the whole community in mind.
