Season 2 Performing Arts Moments

Season 2 Performing Arts Moments

From music to dance, from intimate performances to large-scale festivals, our community has been enjoying the creativity, commitment, and joy that define WAB’s performing arts program.

In November, WAB proudly took part in three APAC Arts events. At APAC Dance in Guangzhou, under the guidance of Ms. Christina Markowski and Ms. Jamie Lee, dancers explored the festival theme of Dynamic Interconnection. Their moving piece, Entropy, invited audiences and themselves to reflect on how uncertainty and fear can transform into connection and creativity.

Our APAC Strings musicians also traveled to Shanghai American School Puxi. The festival offered a rich week of ensemble music-making, deepening students’ skills while connecting them with peers from around the region.

Meanwhile, the Super APAC Choir Festival in Shanghai brought together 12 international schools for the first combined APAC choir event in 30 years. Under the direction of Ms. Michelle Yip, the WAB APAC Choir performed her arrangement of One Night in Beijing, featuring solos by students Ryan, Eric (on beatboxing) and Yalu (in Beijing Operatic vocals).

Here in Beijing, at the 2025 Beijing International Schools Musician of the Year Competition, seven exceptional young musicians from across the city competed at a remarkably high level. WAB’s Grade 12 student, Eric, was named Musician of the Year for his creative performance blending beatboxing and singing,

Our performers also helped spread holiday joy throughout the city. The WAB High School Choir was warmly invited by the Danish Embassy to perform at the opening of the Danish Embassy Christmas Market, sharing festive music with the wider Beijing community.

On campus, the Winter Dance Showcase, directed by Ms. Christina Markowski and featuring APAC Dance alongside several student groups was a celebration of movement, creativity, and student voice.

We closed the semester with the 2025 Winter WAB Ensemble Showcase, featuring:

  • Intermediate Band (Mr. Mark Armstrong)

  • Concert Band (Ms. Joyce Liu)

  • Chinese Ensemble (Ms. Joyce Zhu)

  • Strings (Intermediate, Orchestra, and APAC, led by Ms. Brenda Li)

  • MS Chamber Choir, High School Choir, APAC Choir (directed by Ms. Michelle Yip)

From regional APAC festivals to citywide competitions, from embassy performances to our own Showcases, our students demonstrated creativity and a passion for their craft. Thank you to the support of our teachers, parents, and wider WAB community in celebrating our students’ growth and performances this season.
