Personalized Pathways to Success at WAB

At WAB, we believe every student’s learning journey should reflect who they are and who they aspire to become. Personalized pathways are not a single program at WAB, instead we create a wide range of opportunities that help students pursue their passions, strengths, and future aspirations. Whether through athletics, the arts, academics, or beyond, WAB creates flexible pathways that allow learners to flourish while building the deep knowledge and skills they’ll need to be successful in a fast-changing world.
“A wide range of students take on our IB programmes, yet sometimes a student needs something a little different. We have a dedicated team of teachers and specialists who are committed to co-creating engaging, credible, and personalized pathways for all our students.” - Stephen Taylor, Director of Innovation, Learning and Teaching
Students at the Heart
Take Grade 10 student Victoria, for example. A talented golfer already scouted by US universities, Victoria spends much of her time training and competing across China and the United States. To accommodate her training and competition schedule, and to make sure she stays connected to her studies, WAB has created a customized curriculum for her supported by two dedicated tutors. Victoria often completes her coursework in the evenings or on weekends, but when she’s on campus, we prioritize her time in class to give her social time with peers of the same age. Victoria has been studying at WAB since Kindergarten, along with her twin sister: “I want to graduate from WAB. It’s where my friends and my roots are.”

For Eric in Grade 12, personalization means following his passion for music. A singer, performer, and beatboxer, Eric has further explored these interests through a Capstone project in Grade 10. Since then, he has accelerated in both Music and English, finding in the arts an outlet for his self-expression and a source of strength through challenging times. Supported by his family and WAB’s teachers, Eric is shaping a pathway that prepares him to pursue his passions in the arts.
“What really made a difference was having the freedom to pursue my passion for music. My teachers know me well and encouraged me to take on independent projects, like my solo music capstone in Grade 10, where I combined linguistics and music by creating my own language and even writing a song in it. That flexibility gave me more time and space to grow as a musician.” - Eric, Grade 12

Aiden, also in Grade 12, is another student forging his own way. In Grade 9, he pursued a Capstone project in computer science. Aiden has inspired an evolution in WAB’s pathways in Math, Science, and English. Aiden’s pathway demonstrates how student voice and choice can spark innovation that benefits the wider learning community.
“For math, the acceleration put me in a more suitable environment where I could take on higher-level courses like calculus and statistics. For Language and Literature, it was a much more challenging experience that pushed me to develop further skills in text analysis and annotation. While my Capstone project gave me a structured way of studying something I truly want to pursue, which is computer science and game design. With a lot of trial and error, regular check-ins and smaller goals that kept me on track instead of only aiming for a big end result. it gave me valuable experiences in computer science and math that will prepare me for the future.” - Aiden, Grade 12
