Exploring Pathways and Building Futures at WAB’s HS Career Fair

Exploring Pathways and Building Futures at WAB’s HS Career Fair

WAB’s annual High School Career Fair brings the world of work onto campus, turning a regular school day into a chance to imagine the future. Each year, the fair invites professionals from a wide range of fields to share their experiences with students in Grades 9–11, helping them connect what they’re learning now with who they might become.

This year, students met speakers from medicine, business, politics, education, and other industries, including members of our own WAB community. In small-group sessions and informal conversations, they heard honest stories about career journeys, asked questions about qualifications and daily work life, and discovered paths they might not have considered before.

A key focus of the fair is learning more about the attitudes and skills that help young people flourish in any workplace. Connecting with the IB’s Approaches to Learning, sessions highlighted the importance of communication, collaboration, problem‑solving, resilience, and building relationships. Students reflected on their own strengths and interests, and how these might translate into future study and work, whether in China or around the world.

The Career Fair is just one of the many ways WAB prepares and supports students for life beyond school. By giving them regular opportunities to explore careers, meet role models, and practice thinking about their next steps, we help them build confidence in who they are and how they might contribute. Each year, as students return to the fair with more experience and self‑awareness, they’re able to ask deeper questions and see new connections between their learning and their future.
