Happy Summer, WABBies!
What another incredible year of learning we’ve had at WAB!
Our students trained AI models to detect skin cancer at STEMx Science Day and recreated the entire WAB campus in Minecraft, down to Duck Lake. Grade 8 students built working Bluetooth speakers from circuit boards and wood, while Grade 6 students designed their own banknotes in Photoshop, complete with security codes and House mascots.
Across the arts, Grade 11 students carved woodcut prints using photos taken by their pen pals in Uganda, raising funds to support our partner school. Grade 3 students were taught clay sculpting by Grade 8s, who had learned from a professional ceramicist. TEDx speakers explored Spotify algorithms, math and art, and the science of addiction, all under the theme Reframe.
Our students also connected their learning to real-world issues and communities, such as Grade 5 through the PYP Exhibition. The Neuro Network club visited brain-computer interface researchers at Tsinghua University and simulated neurological conditions through presentations in Koi Garden. Grade 10 students delivered sustainability speeches entirely in Chinese. Grade 7s visited the Roundabout Thrift Store and designed their own mock NGOs.
In the Elementary School, Grade 2 students matched moon phases, examined ancient Chinese stargazing tools, and built stop-motion models of the solar system. ES Student Council launched Taco Tuesdays and Kindness Challenges, and raised funds for Snuggle pups. SG1 students explored physics and Chinese culture through noodle making, while EY students collaborated with HS students to test out toy designs. Grade 4 studied body systems and presented to parents.
From the Class of 2026 crossing the stage to ouy young learners selling seedlings at the JG1 Market, every corner of WAB reminded us this year what learning looks like when it is purposeful, joyful, and challenging.
Happy Summer, WAB! We can’t wait to see you in August!
