Spaces that Inspire Learning: WAB’s Summer Renovations

At Western Academy of Beijing (WAB), we continually reinvest in our campus so that our learning spaces remain places that spark curiosity and deepen engagement. 

Over the summer, we renewed several learning spaces across campus. These projects highlight our non-profit model in action: every resource invested back into WAB, and every upgrade designed with students in mind. The result is environments that foster wellbeing and prepare our learners for the future. 

In High School, the refurbished science labs represent WAB’s continued focus on STEM learning. With flexible workspaces, students can further experiment, collaborate, and inquire in ways that mirror real-world scientific practice.  

In Middle School, the updated Design and Language spaces offer fresher, brighter classrooms that are better designed to support learning. Our MS Counseling spaces have also been refreshed, providing more warm and supportive spaces for students. 

In Elementary School, the students’ excitement around the new play spaces was tangible. Designed to support student motor skill development across all ages, the variety of play spaces also encourages imagination and exploration. Themed around a “Journey through China”, the playground features an ancient Chinese–style ship, adventure play in a Zhangjiajie-inspired climbing area, as well as sensory sand and water play drawing on Gansu landscapes.  

This summer’s projects reflect WAB’s commitment to continually reinvest in our students’ experience. Our campus is designed to energize learners and support balanced, holistic growth that nurtures academic learning, personal wellbeing, and innovation. As a non-profit school, every improvement is guided by one priority, students, and ensuring our campus continues to grow alongside their needs. 

And we’re not stopping here. Plans are already underway for next summer, which will include renovations of some of our Elementary School spaces. Stay tuned for more updates!
