As WAB advances its school-wide goal to achieve the Future of Learning, it is imperative stakeholders' efforts are unified and coordinated.

The FLoW21 Steering Committee's strategic plan involves three specific and overarching directives (which we are calling unified fiats) that will direct the school's progress towards its goals, our 20 Targets.

The 2017-2018 school year will see more tangible influences and signs of the Future of Learning. The three overarching directives, or fiats, are listed below in draft form and will be officially announced on May 17. Sharing these drafts at our most recent parent meeting and in this post allow our parents to provide feedback. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or would like to share your feedback.

1. Research & Data

In the 2017-2018 school year, a data and research team will create a series of surveys and interviews for the WAB community to better understand topics and issues related to the goals of the FLoW21 committees. In Schedules & Timetables Committee, for example, they will hear from students and teachers about the ways in which students currently use self-directed learning time and investigate ways to maximize its value.

Professional Development

WAB will prepare educators to be experts in learning rather than just teaching, through providing on-going opportunities for authentic and relevant professional development. This supports our goal to develop a community-wide culture of learning at WAB. Teachers will:

  • Identify professional challenges
  • Identify mentors/coaches to support their learning
  • Set goals for progress
  • Engage in short-, medium-, and long-term reflection cycles

Learning Experiences

All faculty will participate in the development and delivery of a FLoW21 learning experience. Teaching teams will develop learning experiences encompassing the following principles:

  • It will incorporate a variety of FLoW21 Targets.
  • It will explore concepts and require learners to ask questions and investigate, providing students the opportunity to direct their own learning, ideally as part of their assessments.
  • Teachers will document their experiences in different ways, depending on the age and grade level of the students.
