WAB Welcomes Diverse, Experienced 22-23 Teacher Cohort

WAB is excited to be welcoming 37 new teachers to our faculty for the 2022-23 school year!

These teachers will be joining across the three school sections, and each of them is bringing a unique set of skills, knowledge, and experience to the WAB community.

The cohort represents more than 17 nationalities and has a combined 426 years of experience.

“I am so excited that we were able to hire such a diverse, experienced, and knowledgeable group of new teachers for 2022-2023,” High School Principal Melanie Vrba said. “All of our new teachers are highly experienced with the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programmes (MYP and DP), and they are experts in their subject areas. Though COVID restrictions caused some worries for recruitment, the process has turned into the wonderful realization that WAB truly is a destination school for the highest quality international teachers.”

For Middle School Principal Marina Frias, the excitement comes from how well aligned the new teachers are with WAB’s mission and philosophy.

“I can see how their values align to WAB's and how they will enrich our mosaic of diversity with the range of backgrounds, perspectives, strengths and experiences in education and beyond,” Marina said. “Their enthusiasm, commitment to planning meaningful learning engagements with their teams are energizing.”

Tom Howard is one of the new teachers joining WAB next school year. He will be teaching sciences in the MYP, and his wife, Elsa, will be teaching humanities.

“I joined WAB, as I felt it important that my school was a non-profit school. As a science teacher, I’m excited by the opportunity for practical learning with the amazing facilities not only on campus, but at the Maio Liang Environmental Education Center,” Tom said. “I met some of my future colleagues, and they made me feel right at home at WAB. I’m delighted to be joining fellow teachers who have such an incredible passion for education.”

The excitement for the coming year and the experiences these teachers will bring is felt across the school.

Our leadership team and current teachers are all excited by the energy and potential of the Elementary School newcomers, as well as those in the other school sections,” Elementary Principal Catherine Pierre-Louis said. “We can’t wait to get them on board and have them contribute to our innovative and enthusiastic team.”

Please join us in welcoming our new teachers and faculty members to the WAB community.
