The WAB Podcast: Students Unpack the MYP Personal Project

The Personal Project is the culminating experience for students in the IB Middle Years Programme. It's an opportunity for students to dive into their interests within the academic context and learn how to apply their skills and knowledge in the world outside of school.

On today's episode, we sit down with three Grade 10 students who explain their Personal Project experience. Use the player at the top of this page or click The WAB Podcast cover at the bottom the page to tune in.

This episode features Debo and Acelynn, two Grade 10 students at WAB, who hosted a combination art exhibition and dance concert. Aiming to raise funds for two charity organizations close to their hearts, the pair not only recruited artists and planned dances, but they also overcame challenges to event planning due to COVID restrictions.

We also speak with Loic, another Grade 10 student who conceptualized, developed, and released a video game. Developing his coding and design skills that he plans to utilize in his future university studies and career, Loic said:

"Having a project that you could share with others was cool -- a game that I made with my own ideas that has a special element," Loic said. "Being able to use my own experience to learn helped keep me motivated. The Personal Project gave me something where the mundane work or the boring things started being fun, because I was talking about experiences I had."

"With the Personal Project, you get to lead your own way, you get to create your own path. That gave me an inspiration and a drive to finish the project," Debo said.

"I wanted to continue to help people around the world and support charity organizations, so I thought about how I could incorporate something that I love," Acelynn agreed.
