The Future of Education Now and Next 2023 Kicks Off Online with AAIE on January 12

The Future of Education Now and Next (FOENN) conference started by WAB in 2019 is back! This January and February WAB is collaborating with the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) for a series of online sessions and an in-person event in Washington DC under the theme “Listening to our Student and Alumni Voices”.

Kickstarting the FOENN23 events will be a session at 8:00am Eastern Time (9:00pm Beijing time) on January 12. WAB’s Head of School Dr. Marta Medved Krajnovic will introduce a conversation with Middle School students and teachers about the role of learner agency in designing an inter-disciplinary unit that resulted in an organic garden on WAB campus.

The FOENN2023 series will culminate in an in-person event in Washington DC on February 7. During this event aimed at international school leaders, WAB alumni will join a panel discussion and share their perspectives on learning at international schools and their journey afterwards. More information about this conference can be found here.

“WAB has been a pioneer in leveraging and including student agency in every aspect of school life, and through FOENN events we tried to inspire schools around the world to do the same. With FOENN2023 we are going a step further and leveraging alumni voices. Our alumni have experienced learning and growing up at WAB and then ventured into the world; who could be better in helping us explore the best ways to ignite student learning and provide opportunities for their talents and potential to flourish at WAB and beyond?” said Dr. Marta Medved Krajnovic, Head of School at WAB.

What is FOENN?

In 2019, WAB pioneered the first Future of Education Now (FOEN) conference to prompt thinking and sharing of innovative approaches to education. The event brought together over 600 education professionals and thought leaders from 60+ countries, 100 schools and 74 speakers in 86 sessions. The event also gave students a platform to have a say in how they envision the future of learning.

Following the success of FOEN2019, WAB partnered with AAIE to host the Future of Education Now and Next (FOENN) conference online in 2021 during the pandemic to continue to provoke thinking about innovative learning models. That conference featured nine schools and their students who were leading the way in leveraging student voice, building a more ethical and equitable future, and using new technologies to enhance learning.

Each FOENN event to date has ignited important and powerful conversations about how to rethink and reshape the educational experience for students to prepare them for the future. We hope you join us for the FOENN23 sessions!
