Season 2 Arts and Sports Recap

Season 2 Arts and Sports Recap

Another incredible season of athletic and musical activities has come to a close. Let's look back at some of the highlights of our Season 2 activities.

Our APAC Band embarked on a journey to Shanghai. WAB musicians performed with great spirit under the guidance of the inspiring conductor, Dr. John Lynch. Several of our students secured sectional leader positions, including Vicky on the flute and Mia on the alto-sax. Vicky, Maggie, and Nicole, who played the bassoon and percussion respectively, were chosen as soloists. The festival was hosted by Shanghai American School Puxi (SPSPX) and provided ample opportunities for our students to interact with Shanghai's rich culture, including a river cruise and a trip to a water town.

Our APAC Theater group had an excellent time in Guangzhou. Students had the chance to collaborate with guest practitioners and students from other schools. In addition to their individual school performances, our passionate theater enthusiasts joined their peers from other schools in singing at the banquet.

This year's International Schools Choral Music Society (ISCMS) was held by Dulwich College Beijing (DCB) Representatives from 16 schools participated with 95 students in the orchestra, 185 students in the choir, and 25 students in the big band. Altogether, they delivered the great finale performances in Forbidden Concert Hall from February 21 to 24. Mark Armstrong, the High School Music Learning Leader and Theater Manager, expressed his excitement, describing the festival as having "amazing energy throughout." For many students, it was their first ISCMS Festival, and they are already looking forward to next year.

In volleyball, our Grade 6 girls and Grade 7 boys secured 2nd place in ISAC matches. The Grade 7 girls achieved both 2nd and 3rd places in the ISAC Division matches, while the Grade 8 girls secured 3rd place.

Our boys' doubles team in table tennis achieved 2nd place in APAC.

WAB's Varsity Boys won their first basketball championship at APAC, they were also the ISAC champions and Great Wall Shoot Out champions. Both our Varsity Boys and Girls teams won the Tricities championships.

The Tigersharks Varsity Swim Team performed well at the APAC championship. The boys and girls combined team finished 5th out of the 10 conference member schools, marking WAB's best finish in recent memory.
