Fitness & Fun for Life: Elementary PE on The WAB Podcast

Playing games and having fun are essential parts of the Elementary School experience. It’s a time when young people begin to fall in love with different sports and develop life-long fitness habits.

How do teachers use physical education to help young people develop a healthy and active lifestyle?  And how does fun fit into the IB Primary Years Programme curriculum framework?

Tune in to this week's episode of The WAB Podcast to hear a conversation with our Elementary School PE Team!

“The students get to come to the gym and interact in different ways and demonstrate different skills with their classmates than they do in the normal classroom,” WAB’s Head of Elementary PE Jane Gooden said. “From the PYP, we design the curriculum in different strands. From that we choose and create different content, and we build the fun into those experiences.”

“The flexibility of the Primary Years Programme encourages teachers to do things in different ways that bring out the personality of the classes and teachers,” WAB PE teacher Niall Watt added.

“It allows us to take the lead from the students,” Teacher Bec Stockdale said. “We are able to design experiences and focus on activities that incorporate the strengths of different students and different classes.”
