ECIS & WAB Partner for Professional Development

Western Academy of Beijing has been named a HUB school for the Educational Collaborative (ECIS) for International Schools, one of the world’s leading organizations supporting teacher training.

Since our founding in 1994, WAB has had a relationship with ECIS aimed at ensuring students have access to the highest quality teaching. Our designation as a hub takes our relationships to a new level, cementing WAB as a school leading in innovative education and professional development in the Asia-Pacific region.

“We’re so excited about having this HUB with WAB. What really aligns for us is our vision and values, and that creates meaningful impact,” ECIS Executive Director Kam Chohan said on The WAB Podcast. “What we’re focused on is skills development and creating a culture for lifelong learning.”

“It is the beginning of this kind of cooperation, and we hope that through its growth we will support teacher professional development, student voice, student agency, which are all very much in WAB’s focus,” WAB Head of School Dr. Marta Medved Krajnovic said o. “Education is changing very rapidly. The world around us is changing. The students that are coming to our school are changing. Supporting the teachers in professional development is key to the development of the school itself.”

ECIS has more than 500 member schools, serving more than 40,000 educators in 82 countries. The global non-profit focuses not only on teacher training and certification, but in leadership development, school governance, child protection, student voice, and inclusion, among others.

Last week, the organization wrapped up a huge international conference in the United Kingdom, where educators collaborated around the theme of “Re-think, Re-focus.” Watch a highlight video from the event here.
