Duck Lake Ice Rink to Open for Community on Friday

Get ready for some winter fun on WAB's Duck Lake!

The Duck Lake Ice Rink will open to our community on Friday, January 8, for ice skating and pond hockey.

As Beijingers have shivered through one of the city’s coldest winters in recent history, the below-freezing temperatures resulted in the opportunity to build a beautiful seasonal facility for WAB families.

This year, WAB installed custom-built boards for hockey, as well as a series of lights to allow the fun times to continue into the evening. Like in years past, the rink has two separate areas: one for general skating and one for playing hockey.

The ice rink is very safe, with a smooth surface and, in some spots, 20cm of thickness.

It's important to note that anyone who wants to access the ice surface is required to wear a helmet. We also encourage you to wear masks and maintain a safe social distance while skating.

On school days, the ice will be open after school from 3:30pm until 7pm. On weekends, the ice will be open from 8am to 5pm. Please note we are confirming evening skating times during the weekends, and we may adjust skating hours as ice conditions change.

Use of the ice surface will be managed like other WAB facilities, requiring a WAB ID card for all participants and adult supervision for Middle and Elementary School students. Parents and guardians have two options when it comes to supervising their children:

  1. Supervisors can skate on Duck Lake or access the dock area by showing the WAB security guards a WAB ID card and a negative COVID-19 test result dated December 24 or later. You must use Duck Lake Road and cross the bridge over to the lake-side area. Please note that parents remain unable to access other areas or buildings on the WAB campus, including toilets.
  2. Supervisors can also stay on the outside of the campus, using the viewing platforms from the Duck Lake Road side of the lake. Please notify the WAB security guard that you are there to supervise your children as they enter.

We would also like to send special recognition and thanks to the members of WAB's Properties Department, who have been hands-on creating the fun and safe ice surface our community will enjoy.

See you on the ice soon soon!
