After 3 Months, Grade 12 Students Return Safely to Campus

What an incredible and memorable day at WAB, as our Grade 12 students reunited with their friends and teachers on campus after nearly three months away.

Things may have looked a little different, but we are all on the path of returning to the life we know and love at WAB.

“We are so thrilled that the Grade 12 students could collect their graduation jackets today and visit the Great Wall of China for WAB’s traditional graduation photo – a chance to create more memories together as the Class of 2020,” said WAB’s Head of School Marta Medved Krajnovic. “My hope is that in returning to campus, they found a sense of comfort, closure, and normalcy even though they have completed their academic requirements and are beginning to turn their focus to university and beyond.”

Prior to coming to campus on Monday, WAB staff followed official regulations and procedures aimed at creating a healthy and safe return. More than 200 WAB staff tested negative for COVID-19, and once on campus, students and staff were trained to follow a comprehensive series of health checks and special regulations aimed at keeping the community healthy. You can read about those procedures in detail here.

“Coming back onto campus, after not being able to do so for the past months, was a feeling of coming home and life going back to normal,” said graduating senior Timo H. “It was nice to see my friends and teachers again. Moreover, coming back – even under these circumstances – allows for creating memories and also gives a feeling of closure after finishing Grade 12.”

Grade 8 students will be the next group welcomed back to WAB on May 11, and our entire community is excited to see this trend of the campus safely continuing to open further. Lessons learned from following official regulations and procedures with the staff and Grade 12s will inform our plans to create a safe environment for the return of more students and staff.

It is important, at this time, to extend our gratitude and sincere thanks to everyone who put time and effort into ensuring our campus could gain approval to re-open safely and remain open for our students. So many members of our staff, faculty, and parent communities have worked tirelessly and diligently to make today possible. We will continue working to prepare for the return of our entire community.
