Alumni Profile: Sophie Rutstein

Sophie Rutstein
WAB Graduating Class of 2012
Originally hails from US/UK
Lifetime international student

Gap Year: Sophie spent her gap year in Israel working on a youth community service project as a gardener. She feels this was a transformative experience that helped to set her up to be in the right place when starting her University life.

Where is she now?
NYU, New York, USA
Bachelor's Degree, Education major

Originally Sophie planned to pursue studies in photojournalism but during her service year she realized she was more interested in the field of education. Being familiar with the US, and with two older siblings already living there, Sophie chose to head to New York.

With her love of photography and independent nature, Sophie enjoys the real life experience gained through attending a city campus like NYU. She says that at first it was hard to make connections with other students coming straight from school due to the differences in experience and independence, and mixed with a lot of partying.

Sophie took a part-time job in a café and is now, through an NYU introduction, teaching two mornings at a pre-school. She feels these opportunities have helped her to manage her time, meet a varied group of friends and to make a little money, all contributing to her developing independence.
